Located near the homonymous parish church, on a stretch of the Via Francigena, the Castello di Coiano is one of the oldest agricultural companies in the Valdelsa area. The Castello di Coiano stands on fertile land known since the 3rd century BC, fruited by the Etruscans and then by the Romans as documented by some artefacts found in the 1980s, now exhibited in the Civic Museum of Montaione.
Towards the end of the 10th century, the Castello di Coiano became an important refreshment point thanks to its strategic position along the Via Francigena: it was in fact remembered in the travel diary of Archbishop Sigeric (Archbishop of Canterbury) during his return to England after having been to Rome.
From a military stronghold, the Castello di Coiano has transformed, over the centuries, into a country residence thanks to a succession of noble Tuscan families who gave their contribution by expanding the estate and improving the farming.
Today the Castello di Coiano is an agricultural company that extends over 360 hectares of which 25 are planted with vines and 3500 olive trees, while some cultivations are located near Cerreto Guidi, Vinci and Baratti (this last on the Tuscan coast).
This allows us to have a great variety of different vines, soils and climatic conditions which are reflected in the different types of wines as well as vinsanto and extra virgin olive oil.
