The firsts human settlings in Collegalli are dated back before the 11th century, but only later was built a Castle from the Count Ranieri on a hilltop called Colle.
This Castle or Fief, in the beginning under the jurisdiction of the Pisa's republic, it submitted in the year 1272 with Carlo D'Angiò to San Miniato. The counts of Collegalli was involved in the wars between Volterra and San Miniato and attended to the peace of Naples in 1318.
In the year 1362, further to close links with Florence, the counts of Collegalli became feudal lord of Florence, that in change Florence should defend against their enemies attacks. From their side, the counts of Collegalli, must offer to Florence, during the day of the holy Saint of Florence San Giovanni Battista - the 24th of June - a silky banner that their representative had to bring into the church during the ceremonial.
Some years later, between 1362 and 1370, some of the Counts of Collegalli was charged to have been attended to the revolt of San Miniato against Florence, finished with the breakthrough of the castle from the military troops of Florence.
News about the counts of Collegalli ends around the year 1427, after that the castle pass through many nobles families, till when the family of Orlandini Beccuto sold the estate of Collegalli to the Duke Ferdinando Strozzi, who owned also the castle and the farm of Balconevisi.
The duke Ferdinando Strozzi, built the Villa of Collegalli on the ruins of the castle of which remains today only some buttresses. Later the duke sold the villa (and the farm of Balconevisi) to the Uzzielli's Family.
At that time in all the estate of Collegalli there where 400 inhabitants.
Today together with the villa, it's possible to admire the church of San Vito and the little church of Collegalli accessible only by feet by a country road in the wood.
