

The church once dedicated to San Bartolomeo, succeed in 1816 to the parish church of San regolo (an african Saint died in 781 and buried in the Dome of Lucca) that was located just a kilometer far away from Montaione.
When San Vivaldo died, its bells starts to play alone and for that reason the Saint Vivaldo was buried under the high altar, and remain untill the transfer in the the XX century.
Here in 1369 has been decided the act to which the Castle of Montaione subjected to Florence.
The façade of the church is between two buttresses (1765) while in the centre at the top there is a stone of the Radiant Host of San Bernardino; at the bottom of the bell tower also there were a loggia builted in 1795 by Tommaso Tofani and broken up in 1845 .
On the right of the façade, there is a gravestone in remeber of Francesco Chiarenti, an expert in Medicine and agriculture. The side on Via Roma, presents many buttresses joined with arcades where it's possible to see the founds of an arch in terracotta of XIII century.
Inside, the church has been restoren in 1635 financed by Scipione Ammirato il Giovane, buried under the high altar as indicated outside under the "Arco del Pievano".
he internal side of the façade and the baptistry are neoclassical. On the right side of the church on the first altar there is the "Madonna del Buon Consiglio" (Florentine school of Cimabue XIII century). It's also possible to admire a panel of Francesco Rosselli the "Virgin on throne with San Regolo and San John the Baptist" and a painting with "Tobia and the Angel".
The "Madonna dei Sette Dolori" on the altar (1773) is used to be marched in procession every holy Friday. In 1787 the grand duke Leopoldo restored at his expenses the presbytery with some neoclassic decoration.
