Francesco ChiarentiFrancesco Chiarenti was born in Montaione in 1766; the father Quintino Pasquale was a landlord and he had work for the municipality of Montaione, the mother coming from a famous family of Pisa: the Vacca Berlinghieri. When young, Francesco moved to Pisa to study medicin and he stay at home of his uncle, the doctor Francesco Vacca Berlingheri. Once the study was ended, Francesco Chiarenti start to be a professional doctor in Florence, and in 1789 he published a test called "Delle diverse teorie riguardanti le fisiche funzioni de'nervi". Medical appearances of Francesco Chiarenti was appreciated outside Tuscany, in particular at the University of Pavia where Lazzaro Spallanzani - the most important Italian physiologist - was teaching. In 1799 Francesco Chiarenti leave the medical profession to address himself to political. He supported the pro-French government of Reinhard but for that reason he had to leave Tuscany when Austrian thrown out French troups. Chairenti, after a stay in French, come back to Tuscany with French troups of the General Miollis the 15 october 1800.
Later Francesco Chiarenti, moved to Montaione and devoted himself to the agriculture, he experimented new cultivation to increase production of hilly lands. In 1801, he also became a member of "Accademia de' Georgofili" of Florence, and in 1819 he became an onorary member of the same accademy when he published his "Observations on the Tuscan agriculture" where he explain about some experiments made by Chiarenti in his land in Montaione. Francesco Chiarenti died in Montaione the 20 june 1828 at 62 years old. There is a gravestone of this scientist and politician man, in front of the façade of San Regolo's church where Chiarenti was buried.
