Santo Stefano

210 mt s.l.m.

It seems that the origins of Santo Stefano dates back to the Etruscans as confirmed by some archaeological finds of earthenware during excavations in 1995.

In fact, under a farmhouse there are two rounded cellars dug into tuff that looks like Etruscan tombs in addiction to two Etruscan cippus in white marble.

By the way, more recent documents explain the existence of Santo Stefano in the 11th century, but we have more sure notice starting from 14th century. In the past, Santo Stefano was a walled and fortified city with a vast territory from the river Orlo to Castelfiorentino and Barbialla.

It was part of the district of San Miniato when in 1369 was taken by Florence.
