Castelfalfi - hence the name comes from 'Castrum Faolfi' - and its castle were founded probably around 700 by Long bards. Part of the castle passed on by the Bishop of Volterra and in 1230, submitted first to San Miniato and than to Florence.

In 1511 the Romanesque church of San Floriano has been rebuilt, and in 1554 the military troops of Piero Strozzi sacked the village during the war between Florence and Siena.

During the renaissance the Castle of Castelfalfi has been transformed from a fortified city into a villa which has been conserved till today.

For a long time the village was based on agricultural economy, till the last century when a tobacco shed was built to work the plant imported from America.

Today, the Castelfalfi Estate, has been restored and divided into holiday apartments and the tobacco shed transformed into an Hotel. In the historical centre there is a tennis court and a swimming pool, while in the nearby a golf course with 18 holes is situated in a wonderful countryside. Part of the castle has been transformed into a restaurant.
