Alberi is an hamlet in the neighbourhood of Montaione located along the banks of the river Egola. From Montaione you get Alberi following the road to San Miniato and turn left just after passing the bridge over the river Egola.
In a census in 1861 the locality was called Sorripa to distinguish themselves from the old Sorripa who was in position raised.
The name Alberi is due to the fact that in the valley of the River Egola - thanks to moisture of the valley - there were large plantations of poplars that in the local jargon and Tuscan language are commonly called "Alberi" that mean trees. In the past near the locality Alberi, there were some mills, that exploiting the waters of the river Egola to move the blades, grinding grain harvested on the surrounding hills.
In a document dated 1413 is mentioned the Church of San Giusto a Sorripa, even if no remains are left of the building, while the church of Alberi, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, was donated by the family Giglioli-Masi to the inhabitants.
There are also news of an ancient theatre where were performed some shows until the '30s, and then transformed in a school until the '70s.
The fraction is still inhabited, there are several restaurants and a bar with the sale of food, while some houses were renovated and vacation homes and "agriturismo".
