Track 1

Montaione > Orlo > Mannello > Fornace > Terraio

The track is not very long and doesn't present any particular difficulties. The stretch on the bottom of the valley can be difficult to cover on summertime because of the rapid growth of the vegetation.
The track presents three stretches on asphalt road and two stretches which go through woods and cultivated fields. The first part of this track goes back over the ancient way that linked Montaione to Castelfiorentino, along the Orlo River.

1. Montaione > La Pieve > Mannello
Distance DIFFERENCE IN LEVEL TIME
Km 1.9 - 200 mt 50 min.

From Montaione (Piazza Gramsci) take the road to Santo Stefano and go along until the crossroad to Pieve (at the Iron Cross turn right). Go beyond the houses and turn left towards the dirt road that goes through the olive-grove. On the left there is a pheasant stock farm, and high on the right there are the ruins of the ancient "Pieve" of Montaione, which nowadays is property of a private citizen, and little part of a farmhouse.
At the crossroad turn left and follow the path going down towards the Orlo River, along cultivated fields. There it begins (in the wood) a level stretch that, goes along the bed of the river and thick blackberry bushes. Then cross the bridge in the young poplar-grove. The path begins to rise slightly. Keep the right and go along the vineyard to reach the asphalt stretch of the ancient way of Mannello.

2. Fornace > Montaione
Distance DIFFERENCE IN LEVEL TIME
Km 1.1 + 100 mt 25 min.

Reach the provincial road and go up towards Montaione until the gate of the municipal dump, which nowadays is closed. Take the path on the right of the gate, which goes up along an olive grove. From that position, looking beyond the pen of a. pasture, one can admire the village of Gambassi Terme.
Go on amongst olive groves and vineyards until the farmhouse of Moricci, and go beyond it towards the cypresses to reach the asphalt road near the last houses of Montaione.
